Gaiwan is a unique Chinese vessel for infusing and drinking tea. The combination of lid, bowl and saucer are the gaiwan’s three most common components. For this reason, the gaiwan is also referred to as “san cai wan” (三才碗) or “three talent cup”. According to Chinese folklore, the “gai” (, lid) symbolizes heaven, the “wan” (, tea bowl) symbolizes man, and the “tuo” (, saucer) symbolizes the earth or ground. As a whole, this tripartite tea ware embodies harmony between heaven, earth and man.

In the eyes of literati, the sunflower symbolizes unwavering loyalty, with its petals unfolding seamlessly and interlocking without gaps when in full bloom. The curved lines of Six-Petal Sunflower Covered Bowl are graceful and naturally poised, achieving a delightful balance between playfulness and artistic elegance.
