Design Inspirations
“Gua Leng (瓜棱)” is a common shape in ceramics, inspired by the appearance of a “golden gourd (金瓜)” which is a kind of pumpkin. In this context, “golden (金)” symbolizes wealth and brightness both in ancient and modern times. The “gourd (瓜)” with its vines represents continuous growth and prosperity. In traditional Chinese culture, it carries the auspicious meaning of blessing the family with abundant offspring and prosperity. The use of the gourd shape in ceramics reflects a yearning for nature. In the verses of the Chinese poet Fan Chengda (范成大), “The innocence of grandchildren, yet to unravel the secrets of sowing and weaving, intertwines with the poetic pursuit of cultivating gourds in the cool shadows beneath the mulberry tree.” Chinese romanticism extends beyond mere moonlit rendezvous and blooming gardens, finding its essence in the enchanting landscapes of meandering streams and sunlit fields.
Rushan Ming indulges in a leisurely exploration of the “Gua Leng(瓜棱)” artistry, employing the exquisite craftsmanship of Ru porcelain.
